Trade blanket idea

June 5, 2011 Leave a comment

Bkeeven1 has a neat idea over on Inforoo: Setting up a trade blanket. The idea is: you lay out a blanket with some items that you don’t want or need and are willing to trade. Set up a sign. To take something, someone must leave something. I think this is a cool idea. I wonder what sort of things you’d get…

Almost all of my purchases…

June 5, 2011 Leave a comment

This is pretty much everything I purchased just for Bonnaroo in the past two weeks. Not included are my chair, Crocs, and Walmart sandals.

I probably spent a bit more money than I should have, but I can reuse everything (hopefully in August for Lollapalooza!), and I still have plenty for Bonnaroo itself. Overall, I’m pretty happy with my results and should probably get to packing. Four days and counting….

Dollar store purchases…

June 5, 2011 Leave a comment

I hit up the Dollar Tree yesterday and got:

The flamingos were purchased to be stolen. See: this thread. So if you see George and Judy hanging out, please feel free to take them, decorate them, pose them… but please upload the photos to Inforoo or send them to me at lynaroo2011@gmail.com!

The shower curtains? They’re for taking with me in case I need a dry spot on the ground to sit on.

Baking for Bonnaroo

June 5, 2011 Leave a comment

So I got into the kitchen to do some baking for Bonnaroo. I decided having a few loaves of tasty bread would make for some easy, filling munchies while at the campsite or on the go. I made Zucchini Bread, Banana Bread with pecans and chocolate chips, and Guinness Bread with Molasses. One of the banana breads turned into a bit of a disaster, but that’s okay. Note: if you use a knife instead of a toothpick, check the sides of the bread as well as the center!

Amazon purchases

I’ll admit: I’ve gone a bit crazy with Amazon.com purchases. I’ve signed up for a free trial of Amazon Prime before, so I was surprised when they offered me another free trial and actually let me sign up for it- and let me tell you, I have made full use of it! Here’s what I’ve gotten in preparation for Bonnaroo:

Canon Powershot A490:

Amazon saw I’d been checking out cameras on their website, and they had a one-day sale on the A490. It normally goes for $100, but it was half-off! So I scored it for $50, a better camera than the other $50 one I was looking at, the Polaroid i1237. The Canon now going for $80. I also got a 48-pack box of AA batteries for $12, which I figure should get us through ‘Roo 😉

We have some chairs for the campsite, but no chairs that sit low to the ground, and the requirements for chairs inside Centeroo state: “Low seated concert chairs (chairs must sit less than 1ft off the ground)”. SO I got the Kelsyus Backpack Chair. It’s low to the ground… and portable. I spent a lot of time looking online, and this looked like the best deal for $40.

What to wear?

June 4, 2011 Leave a comment

I’m not a big camper, but luckily the best friend I’m going with is, and he’s got all the camping part of our trip covered- so hopefully I’ll have a blog about that part when I get back. In the meantime, I get to talk about CLOTHES and fashion for Bonnaroo! I did a ton of shopping at Forever 21. I went for very basic items in solid colors, because, well, those tended to be the cheapest. I got a few accessories, but figured I will splurge a bit buying pretties and such from Bonnaroo.

I got these dresses for $6.50, one in black and one in teal:

I got this dress for $13.50. I think it’s super-cute, but it is kinda long on me and will be dragging the ground unless I hold or pin it up (I’m not big on hemming, although it might give me something to do on the way to ‘Roo.) But then, I’m only 5’3″….

I got three of their Fab Knit Camis, pretty much just a basic spaghetti-strap tank top, for $2.50 each. I got one pair of bicycle shorts– such shorts which were recommended on the Girly Fashion Thread over on Inforoo. A lot of the ladies said they wear these under their dresses to prevent chafing. Other reccomendations to prevent chafing include: not wearing jean shorts or other hard-fabric shorts and using either Monistat anti-chafing gel (which can double as a makeup primer to help keep your makeup on during the Bonnaroo festival if you want to wear it, which is kinda odd…) or Gold Bond body powder (which I’ve already purchased, though I’m considering getting some of the Monistat as well).

Comfy Feet for Miles…

June 4, 2011 Leave a comment

I am all about comfort, and about to be in one of the most uncomfortable settings one can imagine: six days of sweltering sun with little relief and basically no AC. My BFF is in a wheelchair, and he’ll be doing plenty of pushing and I’ll be doing plenty of walking. I headed over to the shoes thread on Inforoo to help me decide what shoes to get. I narrowed it down to the most popular, which were Vibram Five Fingers (too expensive), Sanuk Sidewalk Surfers (eh)… or Crocs. I’m generally not a huge Crocs fan and never thought I would actually buy a pair, but everyone on the boards talked about how comfy they were, so I broke down and purchased some. I got the Shaynas for $30. They can get wet, be cleaned by spraying them off, and have a strap in case it rains and I have to walk in some mud.

I’m also bringing an old pair of tennis shoes, some cute and comfy (and sturdy-looking) sandals from Wal-Mart and I plan to get some rain boots from Target for under $20. Note: it was recommended that I bring some knee-high socks for the rain boots for comfort, so I’ll be picking up some of those as well!

Hello ‘Roo!

June 4, 2011 1 comment

This is my first ever Bonnaroo this year and I am SO EXCITED! My best friend brought up the idea of going a few months ago. I hardly knew what it was, but Bonnaroo is a music festival that is on it’s 10th year anniversary this year. I like bands and beer and having a good time, but…. um, several days camping out in the heat with little shade in the hot Tennessee sun, where temperatures average in the high 90s? Didn’t sound like so much fun at first, but I got to thinking about it and decided it is something that I want to experience at least once in my life. However, as the date draws closer and closer, I have psyched myself up for it immensely and am really looking forward to going!

Some of the bands that will be playing include: Eminem, Florence and the Machine, Primus, Arcade Fire, Bassnectar, Widespread Panic, Lil’ Wayne,  Robyn, My Morning Jacket, Robert Plant, Neil Young, and the Decemberists. Lewis Black, one of my favorite comedians will be there. I looked up several groups I’d never heard of, and am now also looking forward to seeing a group called Beats Antique:

The actual festival is from Thursday, June 9th through Sunday, June 12 but we’ll be heading out from Columbia, SC on Wednesday, June 8th to get set-up and heading home that Monday. I’ve spent the past few weeks studying the Inforoo discussion boards, and even though I’ve never really done anything like this, I feel incredibly prepared. Anyway, this is my blog on my first ‘Roo experience!
